Georgia holding nationwide local self-government elections

Local self-government elections are being held in Georgia on Sunday (May 30). Voters throughout the country will cast ballots to elect members of 64 local self-government bodies for four years. Members of each City Assembly (Sakrebulo) will be elected using two systems: the majority vote and the proportional vote.

Representatives of those political parties and blocs will be take places in City Assemblies, which overcome 5-percent barrier in the polling stations, to the exclusion of the Tbilisi City Assembly, which will be composed according to new rule. Since today, it will be composed of 50 members, 25 of which will be elected by the majority vote and the rest 25 members – by the proportional vote.

Four other self-governing cities, along with capital Tbilisi are: Kutaisi of Imereti Region, Rustavi of Kvemo Kartli Region and Poti of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region.
